Music Is Art
In 1985, Robby Takac began putting a band together with fellow Buffalonian John Reznik. In 1986, they formed their band, The GooGoo Dolls. 4 Grammy nominations, 15 million records sold worldwide, a dozen platinum and gold singles including 16 Number One and Top 10 hits. And as close to his heart as his music is, Robby's love for his hometown is well known both far and wide. In 2003, he founded Buffalo's Music is Art. Tracy Fletcher, Executive Director, will join Robby to tell us about Music is Art and the huge, positive impact the foundation has had on our community. Jeff Miers, Buffalo New music critic from 2002-23, will moderate the discussion.
Race, Racism and the Story of the American Indian
Keith Burich meets Native people where they live, sharing their narrative in a profoundly stirring way. An emeritus professor of history at Canisius University, Burich uses his experiences and observations to trace the poverty, deprivation, discrimination and inequities of the present to the racial hatred and violence that invaded North America in 1500. Having spent 25 years in Indian Reservations, he has seen the worst of the Indians' plight. Injustices notwithstanding, he has likewise witnessed firsthand the beauty, resilience, courage and compassion of America's First People.
